Product Details
Original Item: Only One Available. The Holy Roman Empire, also known as the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation after 1512, was a political entity in Western, Central, and Southern Europe that developed in the Early Middle Ages and continued until its dissolution in 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars.

The word "charger" originated around 1275–1325 from the Middle English "chargeour". Formerly, a charger signified either a large platter or a large, shallow dish for liquids. They are usually larger than most common dinner plates.

The double-headed Reichsadler was in the coats of arms of many German cities and aristocratic families in the early modern period. A distinguishing feature of the Holy Roman eagle was that it was often depicted with haloes, such as this example.

This pewter charger plate dates from sometime in the 18th century, possibly a bit earlier and measures approximately 11.75" in diameter and features a double head eagle insignia with fine details. Overall condition is very good for the age with typical minor dents and scratches. Please see images for high resolution views of condition and detail.
